하나님의 은혜로 한국 교회는 6만 여 교회, 1200만 명의 성도로 유래를 찾을 수 없는 부흥과 성장을 하였다.

그러나 1979년 시작된 비주류 운동을 기점으로 예장총회가 많은 분열이 일어났다.
교세가 영세하니 신학교 교육도 문제가 되고 교회의 역법이 잘 지켜지지 않는 그야말로 교단 난립에 정신을 차릴 수 없는 현실이다.

사단법인 대한예수교장로회 총회 연합회는 신앙과 교리와 신학이 같은 명분 없는 분열을 치유하려는 뜻에서 2005년 5월 사단법인 설립으로 연합회의 틀을 만들었다.

바라기는 연합회에 가입한 교단들이 한 총회의 이름으로 하나가 되었으면 하는 것이 설립 취지이기도 하다.

예총연에서는 신학 연장교육과 교회 제 모습 찾기를 통해서 회원들의 자질을 향상시키는 일은 계속할 것이며 각 교단으로서의 사명을 다하도록 돕는 일을 계속할 것이다.

한국 교회가 급성장하게 하신 하나님이 주신 은혜를 보답하기 위해서라도 하나가 되는 것이 무엇보다도 필요 하다.
예총연의 사명이 바로 교단이 한 뜻으로 주의 뜻을 이루어 드리는 것이다.

예총연 산하에 여러 교단들이 교회의 사명을 잘 감당할 때에 한국 교회에 기여하며 하나님의 뜻을 이루어 나갈 것이다.
